(KNZA)--The Seneca City Council has approved a zoning change to allow for the construction of a storage building on two city lots, subject to ten conditions.
The Council voted 5-1 Wednesday evening to approve a request by Keith Olberding to rezone property located at the northeast corner of 7th and Walnut Streets from residential to commercial. Councilman Steve Bennett cast the lone “ no” vote.
Approval required a yes vote by five of the Council’s six members because a protest petition was filed by neighboring property owners.
The Council voted at their August 5th meeting to send the zoning change request back to the Planning Commission for further consideration after it ended in a split vote, 3-3.
The Planning Commission at their August 12th meeting made some amendments to the original six conditions and added some new conditions to address the concerns of adjacent landowners.
In other business, the Council accepted the lone bid received from Lawrence-based Tedrow Construction to replace the Boeckman Drive sewer lift station for $71,687. Mayor Joe Mitchell said that the expense had been budgeted for this year.
