(KLZA)-- A former Richardson County sheriff's deputy accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl has pleaded " not guilty" to charges.
26-year-old Joshua Nincehelser, of Dawson, entered the plea Tuesday in Richardson County District Court to felony charges of first degree sexual assault, child abuse and incest.
A jury trial has been scheduled beginning January 25th.
Nincehelser was arrested in late June following an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
Nincehelser is currently on probation on charges of criminal mischief and false reporting for lying to authorities in June 2014 that he had been shot by an unknown assailant in a car he had pulled over near Humboldt.
He later admitted he had accidentally shot himself, and then fired several shots into his cruiser to make his story look real.
