Jury Trial Scheduled For Falls City Teen

(KLZA)-- 18-year-old Derek J. McCann of Falls City entered a plea of not guilty to several charges in Richardson County District Court Tuesday. 

McCann is charged with a felony count of operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest. McCann is facing misdemeanor charges including unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle; count three is a minor consuming or possessing alcohol. The fourth charge is a minor unlawfully operating a motor vehicle with an illegal alcohol concentration and the final count is speeding.

A jury trial has been scheduled for November 17th. 

McCann was arrested by a Richardson County Deputy Sheriff following a pursuit that allegedly reached speeds of 115 miles per hour in July.  Deputy Clinton Stonebarger attempted to make a stop for a traffic offense on Barada Street in Falls City. The car, allegedly driven by McCann accelerated and left Falls City on Highway 73 going south. The car wrecked about a quarter mile west of Highway 73 on 702 Road which is the Nebraska / Kansas State line.
