ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - A St. Joseph teenager charged as adult in the deaths of his grandparents has waived his right to an arraignment in the case.
During a brief court hearing Tuesday, an attorney for 16-year-old Joseph Johnson said he was waiving his arraignment and asking for a six-week delay to study evidence submitted by the prosecution. There were no objections to the delay.
Johnson is charged with two counts of second-degree murder deaths of 72-year-old James Johnson and his wife, 76-year-old Beverly Johnson. Their bodies were found July 4 in the home they shared with their grandson.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports Johnson was returned to Buchanan County Jail, where he is being held on $250,000 bond.
