(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Historical Society plans to seek a $90,000 Heritage Trust Fund grant for it’s Temple of Honor Military Museum.
The Nemaha County Commission Tuesday signed a letter of support on behalf of the Historical Society for the grant application.
Daryl Ann Rial with the Historical Society says, if awarded, the grant would be used to hire a structural engineer to survey the museum, which is housed in the former Masonic Temple on North 6th Street in Seneca, and for repairs, if the building is deemed structurally sound.
Rial says the Historical Society has spent $100,000 so far refurbishing the building and would like to know if it’s worth the money to complete the project.
The grant application is due November 3rd, and the Historical Society would learn in the spring of next year if it’s successful.
The old Masonic Temple was built in 1917, and is in Seneca’s Historical District.
It houses the Historical Society’s military exhibition which features 150 years of Nemaha County veterans history in uniforms, photographs, documents, and artifacts.
