Terell Dixon Arrest Photo

(KAIR)--Authorities are continuing to piece together the details surrounding Wednesday night's fatal shooting outside of an Atchison convenience store that left a 24-year-old man dead.

Jailed in Henry County, Missouri is 19-year-old Terell Dixon,  held on an Atchison County District Court warrant charging him with 2nd Degree Murder.

According to The Clinton Daily Democrat, he was arrested shortly after noon Thursday by Clinton, Missouri Police Officers when reported as a suspicious person, reportedly standing in the middle of a roadway trying to hitch a ride.

There's no immediate answer as to how he made his way from Atchison to the Missouri location, where he was arrested 18 hours after the shooting. Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says that continues to be explored as part of the overall investigation. “Police are continuing to examine how the suspect fled the Atchison area and got to the Henry County area, and if there was anybody who aided in his escape from the Atchison area. It's something that remains as part of the overall police investigation."

There's no immediate confirmation of whether or not a handgun found by Clinton Police is the same one used in the killing of Winston Downing. The newspaper reports the handgun was rolled up inside a black hooded sweatshirt that investigators allege Dixon had hidden in a doghouse when he attempted to run from the Missouri authorities.

Dixon is currently held on a $500,000 bond as he awaits extradition proceedings.

Meanwhile, friends of the family of Downing have started a support page to assist with funeral expenses, which can be found here
