(KNZA)--New high-intensity reflective road signs are set to be installed in Brown County to meet new federal standards.
Engineer Tom Bennett will BG Consultants, of Manhattan, informed County Commissioners Monday that the project will begin next week, and should take a couple of months.
St. Paul, Kansas-based Mission Construction Company will serve as the contractor on the nearly $190,000 project.
Brown County was awarded a grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation to pay for the cost of the new signs.
Bennett’s firm assessed each sign on nearly 276 miles of county roads to determine which needed to be replaced to meet federal standards.
In other business, bids were opened to perform the annual county audit for 2015-2017.
The Commission voted unanimously to accept a three year bid from Mize Houser and Company, of Lawrence, for a total of $38,000, with an additional $2,000 fee for a single audit, if required. It was among two bids received.
The firm has been providing the service for the county.
