(KLZA)-- The Nemaha NRD District Board has approved a budget of just over $6.5-million for the next fiscal year with a property tax requirement of $2.2-million from the 8-county area served.
The actual levy is down from last year, mostly due to a 12-percent valuation increase. The levy will drop from 3.88-cents per $100 of assessed valuation to 3.17-cents.
The budget will include the Duck Creek flood control dam project and associated in-lake fisheries and road improvements. The dam near Peru, is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Other projects included in the budget are drainage improvement on a 2-mile stretch of the Steamboat Trace trail in Nemaha County and watershed structure repairs.
Design work and subsequent construction of a new sediment basin at Kirkman’s Cove recreation area northwest of Humboldt is also planned for the new fiscal year.
