(KAIR)--Atchison County authorities have started the process of bringing an accused killer back to Kansas.

County Attorney Jerry Kuckelman says that extradition paperwork for 19-year-old Arkansas resident Terell Dixon was formally filed on Monday, and “those got sent out to the Governor of Kansas. The Governor of Kansas will have them reviewed by the Attorney General of Kansas to check for accuracy and validity. Once that it has been approved by the Kansas authorities, it will be forwarded on to the Missouri authorities, and once the Missouri authorities approve them, then a governor's warrant will be issued authorizing the Sheriff of Atchison County to go pick him up in the state of Missouri.”

Kuckelman says that he expects the process to take approximately four weeks.

Dixon was arrested in Henry County, Missouri, about eighteen hours after allegedly shooting to death 24-year-old Winston Downing in the parking lot of an Atchison convenience store on the evening of September 9th. He was taken into custody on an Atchison County warrant, charging him with second degree murder. Kuckelman filed the paperwork formally charging him with the crime, late last week.

Dixon refused to waive extradition last week, and, as as result, has been charged with fugitive out of state. His next court appearance for arraignment on that charge, could come as soon as Friday.
