Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.
The Brown County Sheriffs office is very pleased with the turn out from the National Take-Back day that was held at the Sheriffs office this last Saturday from 10-2. We have been a collection station for unwanted, unused or expired medications at any time day or night for the past several years, and today we turned over approximately 250 pounds or these types of medications to the DEA for disposal.
This is a very worthwhile program that enables citizens to have a proper place to dispose of medications
which keeps them out of the hands of those they were not intended for. It is also environmentally a wise choice as these medications are not being flushed down a toilet or thrown away in the garbage. I would like to thank everyone who participated and remind residents that at any time they can bring their medications to the Sheriffs office and twice a year we will turn them over to the DEA for proper destruction.
