Elwood Senior Center Temporarily Relocated
09/30/2015

(KNZA)--The Leisure Hour Senior Citizens Center in Elwood has been temporarily relocated to the Elwood Fire Station.

Doniphan County Aging Department Administrator Joi Davies updated the County Commission Monday about the relocation while repairs are being completed to the current building.

The senior center was relocated following the recent collapse of a portion of the ceiling at the building, which formerly housed the old Lincoln School.

Commissioner Jerry McKernan said he was told by representatives of Riverside USD 114, which owns the building, that repairs to the electrical wiring have been completed and work is in progress on the ceiling repair.

McKernan expressed concerns with there being no fire/emergency exit in the building.

The Commission agreed to move the steam tables from the current location to the Elwood Fire Station for service of meals until the senior citizens can move back into the building.

The Commission thanked the city of Elwood and Fire District #4 Board for their hospitality in providing a space for the senior citizens of Elwood.
