Editor's Note: The following was submitted on behalf of Head Start.
October is Head Start Awareness month. Head Start is celebrating 50 years of service to more than 30 million children across the nation. Head Start was a part of the War on Poverty and it was designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children and their families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs. Now with Head Start Act of 207, Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies, like NEK-CAP, Inc., in their local communities. Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers through early, continuous, intensive and comprehensive services. NEK-CAP, Inc. provides services in Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Marshall, Nemaha and Pottawatomie Counties in Northeast Kansas. NEK-CAP, Inc. would like to take the time to thank the families and communities that we serve for supporting us! In addition to the families and communities, NEK-CAP, Inc. would really like to extend a special thanks to all the past and present staff serving in these nine northeast Kansas counties. Staff serving children daily along with the families are the backbone of the program! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to NEK-CAP, Inc., Early Head Start and Head Start.
