(KAIR)--A little bit of Germany will be found in Atchison this weekend as the city gears up for its 34th annual Oktoberfest celebration.
The Junior Guild is again sponsoring the event in which over 111 vendors will be present.
Planning Committee member Rita Hartman says there will be a wide range of food available for those attending the festival, including “the Methodist Church who always has the great German dinner...the Rotary this year is going to do a beer garden, the Ebeneezer Church is going to be right next to the Rotary and you can buy brats. We got Boy Scouts groups...Ghost Roast Coffee is going to serve us biscuits and sausage gravy for in the morning.”
Hartman adds there will be plenty of entertainment on hand as well. “We are going to have Terry Heineken in the 500 block, and also 11:30-1:30, Gary Meyer will be preforming as Elvis. Atchison Jazz express is going to be there from 2:00-4:00, and then in the 700 block, Carrie Sowers' kids are going to sing from 1:00-2:00, and Kelsey Wolf with the YMCA gymnastics is going to be there from 2:30-3:30.”
Committee member Kim Barlett says the festival will also feature vendors offering a variety of gifts for purchase, just in time for the holiday season. Vendors include “Gorgeous Mums from St. Joseph, Missouri....they have been here before and always sell out. Sterling Silver Jewelry and Precious Gems along with the Butterfly Bling, Pallet Designs re purposed furniture. Character Crotchet hats that are great for the kids, stained glass items, glitter tattoos and face painting.”
Oktoberfest will take place Saturday from 9:30am-5:00pm on Atchison's Downtown Mall, located on Commercial Street.
