(KNZA)--One of the three vacant district road foreman positions in Doniphan County has been filled.
Following an executive session Monday, the Doniphan County Commission voted 2-1 to hire Danny Adkins as the Second District Road Foreman at an annual salary $39,800, subject to a 6-month probationary period. Commissioner Jerry McKernan cast the lone no vote. The hiring was effective immedidately.
Commissioners last week interviewed four individuals for the three open roadman positions.
In other business, the Commission voted to authorize the Kansas Department of Transportation to award the contract for the replacement of two bridge structures on Eminence Road in Independence Township with box culverts to WCI Inc. of Hillsdale, Kansas for $450,000. The bid was among four received.
Federal grant funding through a Kansas Department of Transportation program will pay for 80 percent of the construction cost. The county will be responsible for the remaining 20 percent, or an estimated $100,000, plus 10 percent of the engineering costs.
