Atchison Organization To Hold Annual Halloween Parade
10/29/2015

(KAIR)--The Atchison Kiwanis Club is preparing to hold it's annual Halloween parade, set to take place this weekend.

Kiwanis Club member David Myers says that so far, there are about forty-nine entries in the parade, with each contributing a $10 entry fee that he says goes towards “the Atchison City infant toddler program that serves children from birth to age three who have special needs...the Kiwanis Club has its basis in service to the children and youth of the community. We felt getting that early start was a really fitting way to carry out part of  that service mission.”

Myers adds that there will be another activities presented by the club before the start of the parade. He says “there is a costume contest that starts at noon, it will be in the Atchison Public Library courtyard. We have four age groups from birth to age twelve. So we would encourage trick or treaters, as they are out trick or treating the businesses in Atchison to take a few minutes and stop by the library courtyard.”

This year's parade will also honor the four Atchison teachers that have been inducted into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame. Myers says that Dr. Rod Hefley, Mrs. Liz Anthony, Mrs. Kathy Hines, and Mrs. Karen Glennon will serve as Grand Marshalls.

The annual Kiwanis Club Halloween parade is scheduled to start at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at Tenth and Commercial Streets.
