(KNZA)--Kansas medical marijuana proponents are planning a silent protest, to be held at the State Capitol, on Saturday.
It's being organized through the efforts of a group known as Bleeding Kansas, which says the terminally ill are being denied the opportunity for cannabis-based treatments due to state laws.
Lisa Sublett is the founder of the organization, and says Saturday's “Day of the Kansas Dead” rally is meant to memorialize those who have died due to being denied access to cannabis-treatment. “I think when people see that, I want them to think about who they've lost and the suffering that they've seen,” Sublett tells MSC News. “I want them to decide it's been enough.”
Sublett says she's seen first hand the loss of life due to the denial of what she calls a viable treatment alternative. “We have many friends that we've lost, and we have family members coming to stand for the family members that they've lost. Some of the moms are going to be having a mock funeral.”
Sublett has, in the past, taken her message to the Kansas Legislature where, despite what she says is strong support from Kansas residents, legalization efforts have made little progress.
The one hour rally will run from 2:00 until 3:00 Saturday afternoon.
