An electrical problem appears to be the cause of a fire that badly damaged a Humboldt home early this (Thursday) morning.
Fire fighters from the Humboldt and Dawson Fire Departments responded to the fire in the 200 block of Nemaha Street at 7:30 a.m., and had the fire under control in about an hour.
Humboldt Fire Chief Rex Kapel says an investigation by the State Fire Marshal points to a couple overloaded power strips in a hallway near the kitchen of the home as the likely cause of the blaze. Kapel says the fire went up the ceiling and damaged the second floor of the house. He says the building is structurally ok, but there was significant smoke and heat damage to the interior of the house.
The one person who lived in the house was able to escape without injury, but Kapel said two dogs in the home were injured.
