The Nebraska Farm Service Agency is reminding producers of the upcoming sales closing deadline for non-insurable crops.
Shawna Mitchell, the Executive Director of the Richardson County FSA Office, says those who want to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program – or NAP – should do so before the sales closing date of March 15th.
The N-A-P provides financial assistance to producers of non-insurable crops when low yields, loss of inventory, or prevented planting occur due to natural disasters. In order to meet eligibility requirements for the N-A-P, crops must be non-insurable, commercially produced, agricultural commodity crops for which the catastrophic risk protection level of crop insurance is not available.
Spring-seeded crops that have an N-A-P application closing deadline of March 12th include fruits and vegetables and grass – including native and brome.
Eligible producers need to file the application and service fee by the March 15th deadline. For more information on the sales closing dates and the N-A-P, contact your local FSA office.
