Falls City School Board Adopts District Goals
03/13/2012

The Falls City School Board Monday night adopted the District goals for 2012.  The goals were formulated during a planning retreat on March 3rd, and include five goals to help raise student achievement in the district.
The goals include recruiting and maintaining a quality staff; strengthening the school-community relationships; invest in technology that supports student learning; focus efforts on improving student learning; and actively support and promote a stable source of state funding.
In other action Monday, the School Board set the non-resident tuition rate at zero dollars for the next school year.  The non-resident tuition rate applies to students who attend Falls City Public Schools but live outside the state of Nebraska.  Superintendent Tim Heckenlively said that would currently apply to two students who live in Kansas but whose parents bring them to Falls City to attend school.
And the Board accepted the resignation of Nola Fritz as Flag Corps Director.  Fritz had served in that capacity for the past 30 years.
In his report to the board, Superintendent Heckenlively noted that the district is not anticipating any faculty resignations or retirements at the end of the school year and the administration does not anticipate having to fill any certified staff vacancies for the next school year.
Heckenlively noted one benefit of the mild winter is lower utility costs.  February’s district-wide utility bill of $26,250 was $6,800 lower than the utility bill from last February.
Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled for April 27th in Falls City.  North School Principal Ernie Valentine said they expect approximately 46 students in next year’s Kindergarten class, which is comparable to this year’s class of 47 students.
