Golfers at Kirkman’s Lakeview Golf Course will soon be able to enjoy the luxury of a modern restroom facility on the course, after the Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors approved a request from the Quad County Golf Association to install the new facility.
The structure will be placed within the golf course, which is adjacent to the Kirkman’s Cove Recreation Area, and will serve as a storm shelter as well as a restroom.
The NRD Board needed to authorize the improvement due to the terms of the lease between the NRD and the Quad County Golf Association.
In other action during last week’s meeting, the NRD Board approved the low bid of $55,042 from Kuhl Trenching and Excavating of Tecumseh for upgrades to a structure east of Syracuse.  The project includes the installation of a larger spillway tube to help alleviate drainage issues that resulted from the expansion of Highway 2.
The Department of Roads will contribute 60-percent to the cost of the project with the NRD paying the balance. It’s expected the work will be completed this spring.
Also last week, the NRD Board approved renewal of the lease with Bartlett Grain for their use of an overhead conveyor across the Steamboat Trace trail near Brownville.  The lease was renewed at the current rate of $600 per year.
The NRD Board voted to extend its agreement with the Casey Agency to provide property, liability, and workers compensation coverage for the District,
The Board approved the bid of $7,000 from Stutheit Implement of Auburn for a disk mower to replace the current mower, which is used mainly to mow along the Steamboat Trace Trail.
And the board approved a permit for Randy Huls to install an irrigation well three miles west of Firth.
