Virginia June Smith
Wetmore, KS


Virginia June Smith, 87, of Wetmore, KS passed away February 3, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. She was born May 4, 1925 in Powhattan, KS, the daughter of Homer and Esther (Wenger) Krebs.

Virginia graduated from Powhattan High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She attended both the Wetmore and Netawaka United Methodist Churches and belonged to the United Methodist Women.

Virginia married Edwin L. Smith on November 26, 1946 in Hiawatha. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her son, Marvin Lee Smith, her parents, Homer and Esther Krebs, her brother, Clyde Krebs and her granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Schumann.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Karen Schumann (Ron) and Lanette McKee (Jack)  both of Netawaka; 2 brothers, Clair Krebs and Gerald Krebs both of Hiawatha; 5 grandchildren, Jamie Schumann (Ceela), Shelley Bryan (Ronnie), Kenton McKee (Amy), Nathan McKee (Angela) and Kristen McKee; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Wetmore United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Powhattan Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.  Memorials may be given to the Netawaka United Methodist Church or Wetmore United Methodist Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home P.O.
