BC Students Help Hondurans Over Spring Break
03/22/2012

Typically when college students get spring break, they usually spend the time on a beach, taking trips or catching up on sleep at home.

However, three Benedictine College students used their spring break to help others.

Senior Business majors Kristen Rosser and Joyanna Deniger and junior Spanish major Paulina Barrera went to Honduras earlier this month.

Clean water has been an issue for decades in the country and the trio used their break to help install and maintain water filtration systems.

This was the second trip for Rosser and the idea for the project as part of the Student International Business Council several months ago.

She says they were inspired by her presentation, citing how easy it could be to go over there to show the people how to get cleaner water, so it was time to do the next step.

Rosser was glad to be able to go back for the second time.

In addition to the filter tutorial, the students provided childcare, led prayer reflections and translated for the non-Spanish speaking members of the team.
