Area schools take top spots at St. Mary's Invitational Golf Meet

It was five local area schools taking five or the top six spots in the St. Mary's Invitational golf tournament at Rolling Meadows (Junction City), while individually those schools accounted for nine of the top 10 individual scores. The Holton Wildcats golf team who has enjoyed a great season thus far won yet another team golf crown with a team cumulative score of 311 (best 4 of 6 scores). Wildcats, performance was spearheaded on the day by the four individuals who all finished in the top 10 individual best rounds of the day. As Kellen Brandt finished third shooting a 74 on the day, he was followed by his teammate, Zach Fate who shot a 76 good for fourth place. Garrett Holaday and Kenton Tegethoff both notched top 10 finishes, also finishing seventh and tenth, respectively after shooting a 80 and 81.

The Sabetha Bluejays finished second place as a team with a combined score of 320 which featured two individuals that had top 10 finishes, including a first place finish for Nolan Keim. Keim had the best individual round of the day, shooting a 73 at Rolling Meadows. His teammate, Kyle Stallbaumer shot an 80 which gave him a sixth place finish.

Nemaha Valley and Jeff West came in third and fourth, respectively as teams with scores of 335 and 348. Nemaha Valley like Sabetha had two golfers tally top 10 finishes taking second and ninth places. Trent Olberding, who shot a 74 took home a second place finish, while Caleb Meyer shot an 80 which put him in ninth place. Jeff West was the only team in the top four finishers that did not have a golfer finish in the top 10.

The lone other local school who field a golf team was Horton and they finished sixth place with a team cumulative score of 356, only one stroke back of fifth place finishers Wamego. Horton's, MaKennzi Knudson lead the Chargers with a top 10 finish as he shot an 80 on the day earning him an eighth place finish individually.
