Atchison Non-Profit Stresses Sexual Assault Awareness

(KAIR) -- April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the state of Kansas and an Atchison advocacy group is looking get the word out on what sexual assault is and how to prevent it.

DoVes have been in existence for over 25 years and focus their efforts on protecting victims of domestic violence.

However, Executive Director Tessa Jimenez says sexual assault is a sub category of domestic violence.

Among DoVes services include a shelter and crisis hotline.

Jimenez says they usually average 30 to 40 at one time in their safe shelter and take 30 to 50 crisis hotline calls a month.

DoVes serves Atchison, Brown, Doniphan and Nemaha counties.
