Atchison Gymnastics Group Looking to Find Permanent Home
05/01/2013

(KAIR) -- An Atchison gymnastics group has begun fundraising efforts in an effort to find a permanent location and keep equipment up to par.

The Flipping Booster Committee has been formed to help raise money for gymnasts of various ages performing out in association with the Atchison YMCA.

The group has been in existence for roughly 30 years, but Committee President Jolene Graf says finding a permanent home in recent years has been difficult.

Graf says that the gymnastic program has changed many lives of those that have participated.

They have also written to state lawmakers to turn over the juvenile facility to them for lease or donation, to no avail.

Graf says, despite the difficulty in scheduling events and finding a permanent home, the gymnasts have fared very well at recent competitions.

Recently, the group held a fundraising event at the facility to raise money for equipment and awareness for the program and they were able to collect over a thousand dollars.

Fundraising events will continue today from four until eight at Dairy Queen where the gymnasts at coaches will help serve and clean up.

Fifteen percent of the proceeds made during that time will go to the program.

The fundraising continues for patrons that attend Willies at any point on Sunday, where 15 percent of the money the business makes that day will go to the program.
