(KAIR) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold an open house public meeting for the Benedictine Bottoms Shallow Water Habitat Restoration Project Friday, from two to three at the Atchison Public Schools Community Meeting Room in Atchison.
Early last week the Corps issued a public notice and related study documents announcing plans to restore shallow water habitat on the Missouri River at the about 21 hundred-acre site located just north of Atchison.
The proposed project involves the construction of two side chutes.
When fully developed, the project would restore 65 acres of shallow water habitat for the benefit of native fish and wildlife species, including the endangered pallid sturgeon.
In addition to the public meeting, the Corps has posted their study documents for the proposed project which have a 30-day public review and comment period that opened May 7th and will close on June 6th.
