05/22/2013

Atchison County Emergency Management Director Wes Lanter says all households should have a disaster kit ready.

Lanter says Atchison County has a disaster action plan in place should something treacherous occurs.

However, Lanter says the county currently doesn’t have any publically designated storm shelters for people to take cover in case a tornado strikes.

Neither does the city of Atchison.

Acting City Manager Mike McDermed says the city of Atchison doesn’t have a disaster plan in place themselves, but use the county’s plan should the situation arise.
