National Doughnut Day to Benefit Atchison Charity
06/06/2013

(KAIR) -- A holiday originally started by a national non-profit will now benefit a local branch of that chapter, thanks to an Atchison business.

In honor of National Doughnut Day, for every donation of any size made to the Atchison Salvation Army kettle Friday at Daylight Donuts, each donor will receive a free doughnut.

All proceeds from the kettle will go to the Salvation Army.

National Doughnut Day started in 1938 as a fund raiser for Chicago's The Salvation Army.

Their goal was to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to honor The Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers.

Daylight Donuts will be doing the promotion from 3am until supplies run out.
