Elks Golf Tourney to Benefit Drug Awareness Friday
06/20/2013

(KAIR) -- Efforts to keep drugs out of Atchison County continue, and it's largely attributed to a golf tournament fundraiser started over two decades ago by the Atchison Elks Lodge.

That annual fundraiser continues Friday with the Drug Awareness Benefit Golf Tournament at Bellevue Country Club.

Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says the tournament, which started in 1992 significantly helped keep Atchison's D.A.R.E. program running in the community.

This year, the ELKS will honor the first tournament committee, which included Toby Tyler, Dwight Myer, Les Smith and the late Mike Purcell, Pat Wilson and Ed Ireland.

People that haven't already registered may still do through seven Friday morning at the golf course.

Tournament organizers say there is still room for three to four teams to sign up.

The tournament has a shotgun start at nine followed by a cookout, awards ceremony and auction at the Elks Lodge, beginning at four.

Tournament information is available by contacting Dan Senecal at 913-370-1950.
