(KAIR) -- The opening of the Amelia Earhart Bridge in Atchison to four lanes has been delayed again.
Due to mechanical issues with the pavement striper, the Kansas Department of Transportation says the opening of the bridge to its final four-lane traffic configuration has now been rescheduled from Monday to Tuesday, weather permitting.
On Saturday, crews will complete center line striping work on eastbound and westbound US-59 traffic over the Amelia Earhart Bridge.
Once this center line striping work is completed traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes over the bridge that same day.
On Monday, crews will then prep the bridge deck for the addition of white line pavement markings across the bridge deck.
On Tuesday, at about 10:00 a.m., crews will then complete all striping work across the bridge deck.
Sometime that same afternoon, both eastbound and westbound US-59 traffic over the bridge will be opened to the final traffic configuration across the new bridge.
Traffic over the new bridge will open to four-lanes beginning on the Atchison side of the state line and will be reduced back to a two-lane configuration once drivers are closer to the Missouri state line.

Im glad it will be open soon. My question is, though... how are pedestrians supposed to get across? Ive been told by several people that the plans say nothing about a walk-way. Thank you.
