Emergency Communication Equipment Upgrades Expected in Atchison Co
06/22/2013

(KAIR) -- In the anticipation of federal mandates which will require an upgrade to emergency equipment, Atchison County recently formed a committee to study what needs to be done to become compliant.

The topic came to full circle at the conclusion of the Countywide Summit Thursday evening.

Recently, for the first time in nearly seven years, the Joint Communications Committee met and discussed the requirements to make emergency equipment digital by 2015.

Committee member and rural fireman Kirk Kloepper says despite the extra cost coming, the upgrade will be needed.

Kloepper says it may result in having to put up another emergency communication tower, but the committee is still looking for ways to not have to put up multiple towers and create a high cost for the upgrades.
