(KTNC) - The Richardson County Sheriff’s Department has received what could be a life-saving donation from Falls City Community Medical Center.
On Monday, the Sheriff’s Office received a donation of four Automatic External Defibrillators from CMC. An A-E-D is used to shock a heart back into rhythm during a cardiac emergency.
Sheriff Randy Houser says in a press release that the donation is “vitally important” to people in Richardson County, as it will give officers better life-saving capabilities than they currently have.
Houser says they plan to place one of the devices in the Courthouse, probably in the elevator where it would be accessible to all four floors of the building. After business hours, the AED would be taken to the jail booking area where it would be available overnight in case of an emergency in the jail.
Deputies will share the other three AEDs, keeping them in patrol vehicles throughout the county as much as possible.
Houser says all the Deputies and Jailer-Dispatchers learn how to use the AED as part of their normal CPR and first aid training.
