Indian Cave to Celebrate Christmas in July
07/23/2014

(KTNC)--The mercury in the thermometer – and the calendar – may say it’s summer, but Saturday will be Christmas at Indian Cave State Park near Shubert.
The park will celebrate Christmas in July on Saturday, with various holiday-themed activities going on throughout the day.
Scheduled events include a snowball toss, the chance to paint and take home ceramic Christmas ornaments, and face-painting. Kids will be able to visit with Santa Claus, who will arrive Saturday morning - wearing his summer attire complete with flip-flops. Santa's elves will have treats for kids.
Other events include a craft fair, horse-drawn sleigh rides with proceeds benefitting the Richardson County Jingle Bell Ride, and a Yule Log Quest. The winning team in the Yule Log Quest will be able to toss the log on the evening campfire.
Saturday evening will include entertainment with storyteller Dick Turpin reading the popular book "Elf on the Shelf" before the movie of the same name is shown at the amphitheater.
A Friday evening movie will be "Stranger in the Woods," about animals and birds and their reaction to a snowman that suddenly apppears in their woods.
Campers at Indian Cave will be able to get in on the fun as well. They are invited to decorate their campsites for a chance to win two free nights of camping. Kids can register to win a half-price youth permit, with the winner announed at the end of the day Saturday.
A park entry permit is required to enter Indian Cave State Park. For a full list of events, call the park office at 402-883-2575, or visit
