Jefferson County Commissioners name Richard Malm Chairman for 2012 in their annual re-organizational meeting Monday.
Also during that meeting, Commissioner Lynn Luck was named vice-chair. During their regular meeting, the board met with Meriden resident Earl Rice about chip and seal upkeep on 90th street. Rice said he paid for work in 2006 and expected that it would be maintained. Road and Bridge Superintendent Francis Hubbard reported work being done in 2007 at the county’s cost. He also said patch work was done on separate occasions annually from 2008 through 2010 and a culvert was replaced in 2011 with total cost over time being 13 thousand dollars. The board indicated that they would work on a possible remedy to the situation that might include neighbors chipping in funds to maintain the road. In other action, the board tabled a motion for two weeks for MCM properties to get a conditional use permit to have a sand dredging operation. This came after no public comment was heard on the matter. Commissioners also accepted the resignation of Daryl Chess as Oskaloosa Township Clerk and appointed John Hamm to the position after he resigned his position as township treasurer. Vincent Southiere (South-here) was appointed as treasurer.
