(KAIR) -- Crews in the City of Atchison and in Atchison County are making their final preparations for the major winter storm expected to hit the area.
Expected to hit it’s hardest early Thursday morning, Atchison City Manager Trey Cocking says pre treatment will begin this evening.

Cocking encourages citizens to not travel unless it’s essential, especially in the morning.

In the County, Road and Bridge Supervisor Matt Dorssom says they plan to start treatment as soon as the snow falls.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from midnight Thursday until six Friday morning.
Emergency officials encourage citizens to assemble a winter storm kit, which includes a flashlight and batteries, bottled water, non-electric clock, blankets, a first-aid kit, non-perishable foods, and extra bed essentials.
