Atchison Countywide Summit Re-Scheduled
06/06/2013

(KAIR) -- Officials from the state legislature, city municipalities and Atchison County will converge at the Lancaster City Building June 20th for the second countywide summit.

The date was determined by County Commissioners Wednesday, re-scheduling it from late May.

Commissioner Mike Bodenhausen says a full agenda is tentatively set.

In other business, Commissioners met with Leroy Koehn  from KDOT on the future of taking over maintenance on a roughly three mile stretch of K-74 Highway from Potter to U.S. 73.

At a recent meeting, three options were presented to KDOT by Commissioners: KDOT providing a scheduled bridge replacement, or the county putting either new tubes or a culvert.

KDOT accepted the proposal to do a 50/50 cost share on any of the options, but the county takeover would only take place immediately if Commissioner chooses the county options.

The takeover wouldn’t take place until 2015 if they resume with the KDOT planned bridge replacement. Commissioners are expected to make a decision on which direction they will go in the next few weeks.

Commissioners also signed off on a grant which would help replace the lentils at Memorial Hall. Maintenance Supervisor Joe Bowen says the renovation project is set to begin July 15th.
