(KTNC) - The Mound City Board of Aldermen has approved an agreement to have the Holt County Collector bill and collect city taxes. The agreement was approved at last week’s Board of Aldermen meeting and is effective immediately.
Under the agreement, Holt County would retain three-percent of the taxes collected during the months of November through February of the current tax year and four-percent during the remaining months.
The county would also assess interest and penalties on delinquent city taxes as they do with county taxes. The city would receive the interest minus a seven-percent penalty the county would retain and distribute in accordance with Missouri state laws. Collections would be distributed to the city by the 10th of each month.
The agreement also says the county would deduct a one-and-a-half percent assessment fee each month. That fee had been paid annually.
Holt County Collector Donna Cotton told aldermen she could try to collect taxes the city currently has outstanding, but that would have to be worked out.
In other business, the Mound City Council approved a proposal from Northwest Door to install a garage door opener for the overhead door on the east side of the new shop building. Aldermen also agreed to advertise for bids to construct an office in the building.
Aldermen approved a motion to add several streets to the street-sealing project. The streets added are 7th Street from Railroad to the water plant; 6th Street from Railroad to the street barn; 7th Street from Mill to Mound; and the driveway into the new equipment building.
The move adds $7,900 to the original contract price of $44,452.
The board also approved a motion to issue catering permits to 10 applicants for the upcoming Wine Fest. The approval is pending the submittal of the appropriate No Tax Due certificates from the Missouri Department of Revenue and a copy of the applicant’s state issued liquor permits.
The Wine Fest is scheduled for October 5 in Griffith Park.
