No Decision Following Pawnee County Hearing on Road Closure
05/01/2014

(KLZA) -- Pawnee County Commissioners conducted a public hearing on possibly closing a half-mile section of a minimum maintenance road located two miles east of Summerfield, Kansas on the State line.  A quarter-mile section of the road which is 614 Avenue is already closed.

Several land owners and farmers in the area including Gene Weilage  and his attorney, were in favor of keeping the road open. Commissioners closed the hearing after more than an hour and continued the matter to May 13th.

The Board met with County Assessor Jonathan Bailey to discuss new computers.  Bailey said Multi County Information Programming Services wants to make Pawnee County a pilot county for Computerized Assisted Mass Appraisal. Commissioners approved the purchase of two new computers for the Assessors office at a cost of $1,275 each to replace a pair of computers that are seven years old.

Kevin Brown and Don Hembry with Union Local 251, Mike Turnbull and Jeff Kreifel met with the Board to discuss the Union contract.  They made proposals on wages, changing the vacation and sick time from days to hours and a change in the reimbursement for steel-toed boots from $50 annually to $175 over the three-year period of the contract.  Commissioners will review the proposals and get back to the Union members.

A request by the Pawnee County Arts Council to allow the use of the Courthouse lawn for an ice cream social and band concert on June 29th was approved.
