(KTNC)-- Flood warnings continue for the Missouri River, affecting southeast Nebraska and northwest Missouri, though the projected crests have been lowered from earlier forecasts.
At Rulo, the river was at 18.8 feet at 4:30 Thursday morning, 1.8 feet above flood stage. The river is forecast to crest at near 20.8 feet this evening and fall below flood stage Saturday evening. Wednesday evening forecasts predicted the river crest would rise over 23 feet early Friday morning.
At Brownville, the river stage was at 35.4 feet early Thursday morning, 2.4 feet above flood stage. The Missouri River at Brownville is forecast to crest at near 37.4 feet by this evening and fall below flood stage early Sunday morning.
That crest would be about two feet below earlier projections.
Flood warnings also continue for the Missouri River at Nebraska City and the Nishnabotna River at Hamburg, Iowa.
Richardson County Emergency Management and the Village of Rulo have issued a voluntary evacuation order for residents living along the Missouri River in the Rulo area. They say services could be interrupted and emergency vehicles may not be able to reach areas where roads are flooded.
Roads leading to flooded areas will be closed. The voluntary evacuation ordered will be lifted when the roads are reopened.
