Nemaha Central USD 115 will operate and manage it’s own bus transportation service, beginning next school year.
Superintendent Darrel Kohlman says the board of education made the decision Monday evening after discussing several options....( play audio )
The district currently has contracts with the three contractors who served the prior USD 442 and USD 451 districts.
Due to the large number of kindergarten prep students expected next school year, the board voted to advertise for a half-time teacher.
Nemaha Valley Elementary and Middle School Principal Dr. Amy Beck says at least 32 students have expressed interest in attending the class, which is for students at least 4 years old, and she expects more to enroll by the fall semester.
She said that a number of options have been researched to accommodate the large class, but she will still need additional staff which ever option is taken.
And USD 115 students will have April 25th off. Kohlman said it was originally on the calendar as a half day of school, to be used possibly as a bad weather make-up day. However, Kohlman said that since there were no snow days taken over the winter he would like to change the day to a full day off for students so that the teachers may have an in-service day. The board approved the school calendar change.
