Hunting Access Program Proposed At Pony Creek Lake
04/12/2012

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks would like to implement it’s walk-in hunting access program at Pony Creek Lake.
Randy Whittaker, wildlife biologist with the department, met with the Sabetha City Commission Monday to discuss the program.
Whittaker said the program would allow walk-in hunting between April 1st and May 31st.  Hunting would be allowed for any season that is open during that time frame, but is mainly for turkey hunting.
The Department of Wildlife and Parks would pay the city of Sabetha an upfront one-time payment of $13,800 to allow the program for 10 years.
Following discussion, it was the consensus of commissioners to wait until their next meeting to make any decisions.
In other business, Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck presented a bid from Aberle Ford for a 2013 Explorer 4-door police vehicle.
Following discussion, a motion to purchase the vehicle ended in a tie vote, so it was not approved.
Mayor Doug Clark and Commissioner Hugh Mitchell voted in favor of the purchase, while Commissioners Julie Burenheide and Nick Aberle voted no.   Commissioner Rick Koch was not present at the meeting.
Following a pubic hearing drawing no comment, the commission approved an ordinance to vacate a portion of 13th Street and an ally as platted in the Slosson Brother’s addition.
