The Falls City Utility Department and Falls City Volunteer Fire Department have started their annual fire hydrant flushing to flow test and remove any sediments built up in the water mains. The testing will be going on for several weeks.
Customers may experience a temporary brownish-redish discoloration of their water during the process. Utility Department Superintendent Alan Romine says the discolored water poses no health threat and notes the water is safe to use.
If you do notice flushing in progress in your neighborhood, you are advised not to use the water until the flushing is done, so as not to pull discolored water into your service piping. If you do experience discoloration of water, you should avoid washing white clothes during this time since the brownish-red minerals will stain while cloth.
