A clean-up day has been scheduled in Peru this weekend. Peru State College will join community volunteers and the City of Peru to clean up the town this Saturday.
Peru State College president Dan Hanson says more than 75 college students, faculty and staff are expected to volunteer their time, and people from surrounding communities are encouraged to get involved.
Peru residents are asked to have items they’d like picked up by the curb prior to 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers will meet at Peru City Hall at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, and should bring their own work gloves.
Those volunteers will fan out across Peru to pick up items left curbside. Items that will be picked up include bagged garbage, used oil, metal and scrap iron, batteries, tires, furniture, carpet, appliances, televisions, computers, copiers, fax machines, lawn mowers, snow blowers, bicycles, and swing sets.
The event is part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, which is described as the nation’s largest annual community improvement program. Last year, volunteers donated more than five million hours to clean, beautify and improve more than 16,500 communities in all 50 states.
