Unemployment rates in area northeast Kansas counties dropped or held steady in March.
That’s according to the latest unemployment figures released by the Kansas Department of Labor.
Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate in the area at 3.8 percent, the same as in February. Leavenworth County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.5 percent, down one tenth of a percent from February.
Elsewhere, Atchison County’s jobless rate in March was 7.7 percent; Brown, 5.8 percent; Doniphan, 7.4 percent; Jackson, 6.7 percent; Jefferson, 7.5 percent; Marshall, 4.8 percent and Pottawatomie, 5.4 percent.
All the unemployment rates are down from one year ago.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.2 percent, a decline from 6.8 percent one year ago, and a slight increase from 6.1 percent in February.
In the past year, Kansas gained 22,700 private sector jobs, a 2.1 percent increase.
