Attempted murder is the expected charge, following the arrest of a 24-year-old Lancaster man in the early morning hours of Thursday.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says the investigation is ongoing (Play Audio :23 seconds)
Hill now awaits the investigative reports from the three law enforcement agencies, saying the formal charges will be filed against Hermreck sometime prior to 5:00 Friday evening, with his first appearance scheduled during the day.
Taken into custody at his Lancaster home, in Atchison County, Hermreck was initially arrested on charges including aggravated domestic battery, and booked into the Brown County Jail.
The female victim, along with her 3-year-old child, were both taken to Horton Community Hospital following the Wednesday night incident which, according to Horton Police Chief Beau Hasenohr, was reported around 10:45.
The attack apparently happened when the woman answered the door of her Horton residence.
The child was treated in Horton for a laceration on her head.
The woman was flown to the University of Kansas Medical Center for further treatment of multiple injuries, including broken bones.
Although specific details aren't available regarding her status, initial reports referred to her condition as serious.
