The Falls City Board of Education approved an amended budget for the district’s Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking Fund during Monday’s meeting. Approval of the amended budget is required under state law, as the district earlier this year refunded the bond. Superintendent Tim Heckenlively explains. (play audio :40)
The amount of the refunded bonds totaled approximately one million, 41-thousand dollars. Heckenlively says that doesn’t mean the district spent that much more money, but actually will save a little bit by refunding the bonds at a lower interest rate. (play audio :24)
Heckenlively says refunding the bonds will have no impact on the original tax request – which will remain the same. The board began Monday’s meeting with a public hearing on the amended budget, with no public comment received during the hearing.
In other business Monday night, the Falls City School Board approved changes to the Student Handbooks at all district buildings.
One change, approved district wide, pertains to fundraising solicitations. The revision stipulates that fundraising activities – by outside clubs, organizations, and civic groups – be conducted outside of the school day.
The board approved the first reading of several policy revisions. Those include policies pertaining to bullying, certified employee evaluations, concussion awareness, admissions, equal opportunity in education, the Family Medical Leave Act, Internet and computer access, and Title One parent involvement.
And the board accepted the resignation of Spanish and Social Studies teacher Mark Junker.
