The Council approved funding Main Street with $30,000 each of the next three fiscal years on a 6-0 vote with Councilman Jerry Oliver, a Main Street Committee member abstaining and Councilman Steve Scholl absent.
The Council also approved amending an ordinance concerning sidewalk specifications downtown for the Main Street project. City Administrator Gary Jorn explained. ( play audio :42 seconds )
Brunette says the contract to do the Main Street Project between Stone and Harlan on 17th Street and the West side of Stone Street in the 1700 block has been signed by AHRS Construction. It has been sent back for the Main Street Committee for their signature and hopefully the project can begin in the next couple of weeks if not sooner.
The Council also approved a request to use 18th Street between Stone and Harlan for a Main Street fund raising event July 7th. The event will include live music and the Council gave favorable comment to a request for a special designated liquor license for the event.
Following a 45 minute executive session the Council voted not to appeal a grievance concerning health insurance premiums. Three married couples that work for the City have been getting their entire health insurance premiums paid. The contract with the union calls for paying for the worker at 100 percent and 80 percent of the additional family coverage.
When the City attempted to correct the way the premiums were being paid a grievance was filed. An arbitrator said the City needed to continue paying all of the premiums. When appealed to the District Court the District Court upheld the arbitrators ruling.
