Senator Taddiken Announces Retirement

State Senator Mark Taddiken

State Senator Mark Taddiken announces his retirement after serving in the Kansas Senate since 2000 representing the 21st Senate District.
The rural Clifton Republican announced his unexpected withdrawal from a re-election campaign today ( Friday ) as lawmakers gathered in Topeka for the formal end of the 2012 legislative session.
In making the announcement, Taddiken said he wants to devote more time to his family and farming operation.
As part of the announcement, Taddiken said he’s endorsing state Representative Elaine Bowers, a Concordia Republican, to succeed him.
The three-term representative announced her intent today ( Friday ) to run for Taddiken’s seat.
Bowers thanked Taddiken for his service, saying he has been a dedicated, hardworking advocate for rural interests throughout his 12 years in the senate.
In order for Bowers to qualify as a candidate, Cloud County must remain within the 21st Senate District.
The state district map is expected to finalized by a panel of three federal judges in the next two weeks, prior to the June 11th filing deadline.
Currently, Nemaha and Marshall Counties are included in the 21st Senate District.
