The Jackson County Commission this week received several requests for funding assistance.
Tom Bishop and Trish McAllister with Homestead Affordable Housing met with the commission to request that the county contribute $50,000 in economic development funds to provide matching funds for a grant they have applied for from the state.
Commissioners were told the funds will be spent to help maintain houses and keep them livable for families that meet certain criteria.
The grant will be for Jackson County and Homestead Affordable Housing will serve as the administrator.
The commission agreed they would discuss the matter further when Commissioner Roger Coverdale returns from vacation next Monday.
Bob Carlson, Cindy Hower and Anna Wilhelm appeared on behalf of the Holton Main Street Program to discuss a Jazz on the Square event to be held September 15th.
Hometown jazz artist Jim Seeley has agreed to perform for the fundraiser for Main Street. New Orleans and Memphis themed food and win pairings will be offered at different establishments on the Square.
Hower explained they are asking for sponsors for the event.
The commission said they would like to discuss the matter further when Commissioner Coverdale returns.
Holton/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Director Jamie Claycamp met with commissioners to request funding support for the July Jubilee.
The commission voted to donate 15-hundred dollars for the cost of fireworks.
