KCA Supports Legislation to Protect Property Owners' Rights and Prohibit Overreaching By EPA

Kansas Cattlemen's Association is pleased that Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins and Congressman Mike Pompeo have co-sponsored H.R. 4965, legislation aimed to protect the existing rights of property owners and prohibit the EPA from expanding its authority to potentially regulating ponds and ditches, and every water way in the United States.

In February, the EPA finalized its wording to identify waters that are under the authority of the Clean Water Act. By doing this, the EPA gave itself expanded authority of the Clean Water Act and at the same time evaded Congress' intent of the law.

"The EPA has been pursuing this for years now, and Congress has made it clear, through H.R. 4965, that the EPA is overreaching its authority. It is important to preserve the rights of land owners. If the EPA is allowed to regulate every pond, ditch, and wet land, not only is there the potential to over regulate, but the EPA would be imposing economic burdens and hardships on not just cattlemen but every land owner," stated KCA Executive Director Brandy Carter.

KCA has also contacted Congressman Huelskamp's and Congressman Yoder's offices to ask them to support H.R. 4965 as well.
